Staying Up To Date

CodeMark Updates

When you’re involved in designing QPOD foundations and slabs, making sure you have the most up-to-date CodeMark manual is essential.

While many of you may be familiar with the SuperSlab system certified through Allied Concrete, QPOD has now achieved its own independent CodeMark certification, offering expanded flexibility, efficiency, and cost savings when it comes to designing foundations. The key is understanding the distinctions and benefits that come with this new certification and how it impacts your design choices.

Our new independent CodeMark certification also not only covers the traditional Raft configuration but also our Continuous system, which offers more design flexibility and cost savings which we’ll dig into below.

Expanded Design Flexibility

Provision for Irregular Shaped Slabs and Narrow Corridors

One of the key advantages of our now independently CodeMark-certified system is its ability to support complex and irregular slab designs, giving you even more freedom to push creative boundaries.

Whether you’re designing narrow corridors or designing slabs of varying lengths and unconventional shapes, our updated manual ensures you can acheive full compliance.

For instance, as shown in the example below, narrow corridors can now be integrated into your designs. Please note, for slabs over 30 meters in length or those with irregular shapes and corridors (where the width is less than 50% of the smaller adjacent slab), a free joint will be necessary to maintain structural integrity and flexibility.

    Maximising Wingwall Projections

One of the major changes in our new CodeMark certification is the maximum cantilever projection or wingwall extension from the slab envelope.

Under Allied’s SuperSlab certification, the maximum projection was limited to 600mm. With QPOD’s new independent CodeMark, this has been extended to 1200mm, providing you with more room to create and design with more flexibility.

See below for a quick overview of how a wing wall works under our new independent CodeMark certification.

The Shift to QPOD’s Continuous System

Here at QPOD we recognise that you previously you may have relied on the SuperSlab CodeMark certification. And while we still hold this certification and maintain a strong relationship with Allied, our new independent CodeMark for QPOD now offers additional options. Specifically, the Continuous system which offers the following advantages:

    • Requires less steel and concrete – providing the site is on good ground.
    • Is not tied to a specific concrete supplier – allowing flexibility as long as the concrete used is certified.
    • Is cost-effective – by reducing the materials required by removing the ribs out of a traditional Raft configuration, the overall project can see significant savings in both time and money. In fact, the average Continuous configuration sees an average saving of $3,000 on the average 220sqm slab. Below you’ll find a link to our calculator where you’ll be able to calculate your potential savings with the Continuous system.
