Unpacking Producer Statements

Understanding PS3 and PS4

If you’re involved in foundations or building in New Zealand you would have no doubt heard of PS3 and PS4 documents. These producer statements ensure that the foundation installation meets all necessary regulations. But where does QPOD fit into this process, and what responsibility does QPOD have in issuing these statements? Let’s dive into what PS3 and PS4 mean for your build and how QPOD can contribute to a smooth, compliant process.

Firstly, what are PS3 and PS4 Producer Statements?

PS3 (Producer Statement 3 – Construction)

A PS3 is issued by the contractor or installer after the foundation system is installed. This document certifies that the installation complies with the approved plans and relevant building code requirements. In essence, it’s a confirmation that the foundation system—whether QPOD or otherwise—has been installed correctly according to the design specifications

    PS4 (Producer Statement 4 – Construction Review):

A PS4 is only required when the foundation is SED and is typically provided by an engineer or suitably qualified professional who reviews the installation. This inspection ensures that the foundation meets the engineering design and the building code. The PS4 acts as a final seal of approval, indicating that the foundation is up to standard and ready for the next stages of the build.

Please note: if you’re applying the QPOD CodeMark certificate to your project, providing the building parameters allow, no PS4 is required.

It’s essential to note that a PS4 is only needed when the foundation falls under Specific Engineering Design (SED) requirements. For most standard projects, the CodeMark-certified QPOD system simplifies the approval process without additional engineering paperwork.

So where does QPOD come in?

    Simplifying Foundation Design

The QPOD system is largely designed to simplify foundation construction by providing consent-ready plans and engineering support, as well as easy access to products through our national distributor network. We often get enquiry though around whether QPOD is responsible for issuing or is in some way involved in PS3 or PS4 statements. Let’s clear up this misunderstanding.

Short Answer: No, But We’re Here To Help

The responsibility for issuing a PS3 lies with the contractor or installer, while a PS4 must come from an independent engineer or qualified professional who inspects the installation. As a product supplier, QPOD does not issue, nor are we involved in PS3 or PS4 statements because we are not directly involved in the on-site installation or final inspection process.

However, we don’t see our role as ending at supplying you with our foundation system. We ensure that our products come with comprehensive installation guidelines and support from our QPOD team. By providing detailed instructions and access to engineering resources, QPOD helps facilitate a smoother installation process, which in turn can make it easier for installers and engineers to provide the necessary PS3 and when using QPOD in a scenario that falls outside of the CodeMark buillding parameters, with PS4 statements.
