Davie Robinson, a Wanaka builder, was interested in using as little polystyrene in building as possible. Finding QPOD™ Flooring System with a Google search was his answer for a product that replaces poly pods with recycled plastic pods. The Rib centres in his pre-engineered design didn’t need to change and the QPOD™ had similar volume. His engineer saw this looked like a great product and posed no problem with simply ‘swapping them out’.

Davie laid the QPOD™ Flooring System with ease, this was the first time he’d used the product and he commented; “Overall it looks like it will be a really strong slab and the pods were much better to use than polystyrene”.

Based on the ‘Raft’ or ‘Waffle Pod’ floor concept QPOD™ simply swaps out traditional 1.1m2 polystyrene (EPS) pods at 1200mm centres with a 100% recycled plastic pod. 4x QPOD’s join together to form the full 1.1m pod.

Standing at 220mm tall QPOD™ features an additional built in 40mm upstand to hold your mesh at the correct cover, no barchairs required and ensure your steel is sitting in the middle of your slab not down on the plastic pod. Davie was using Seismic 682 mesh with total thickness of 16mm, this meant he achieved the correct cover of <30mm.
